Serie A Women's Cup, The Match Report of Como Women-Como 1907

Como Women claimed a 2-1 victory in the third and final match of the Serie A Women’s Cup group stage. In their first game in front of their home fans at the Mino Favini Stadium in Meda, Tramezzani’s side secured derby victory over Como 1907 thanks to Vigilucci’s decisive goal in the 56th minute, which sealed the final 2-1 scoreline.

Match Report

In the 10th minute, Moraca took advantage of Gilardi coming off her line and tried to surprise her with a delicate lob from 25 metres out, but the effort failed to find the target. It was the first chance of the match for Como 1907. In the 15th minute, the visitors opened the scoring. Wullaert stepped up to take a free-kick from 25 metres out and, with a precise strike, found the top corner, wrong-footing Gilardi. In the 27th minute, however, Como Women drew level. Nielsen did well on the right to put a dangerous low ball into the box. Oloffsson got there first but inadvertently deflected the ball into her own net, wrong-footing her own goalkeeper in the process. It was an own goal. Two minutes later, Gilardi came out of the area and committed a foul on Moraca. The referee showed her a red card for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity. Como Women were down to ten players. Barnardi was substituted to make way for Babb between the posts, with the goalkeeper making her debut for Como Women. A few minutes later, Como Women head coach Paolo Tramezzani was also sent off for protesting. In stoppage time, despite being down to ten players, Como Women created another dangerous opportunity from a corner. Chidiac tried a low shot from the edge of the box, which was intercepted inside the area by Howard, who was unable to convert the follow-up. The ball went high over the crossbar. The first half ended 1-1.

At the start of the second half, in the 51st minute, Como Women came close to taking the lead. Borbye, played in by Bergersen from the left shortly after the substitute had come on, tried a first-time effort from inside the box. The ball went just over the crossbar. In the 55th minute, Nischler tested Durante with a first-time low shot from the edge of the box. The Como 1907 goalkeeper was forced to turn the ball behind for a corner. From the resulting corner, Como Women completed the comeback. Vigilucci rose highest, beating the entire defence to the ball, and headed it into the net to make it 2-1 for the home side. It was the Tuscan midfielder’s first goal in a Como shirt. In the 58th minute, Como Women came close to a third goal with Nischler. Bergersen, once again dangerous down the left, sent a powerful, waist-high ball into the area. Nischler slid in to meet it, but her effort went just over the crossbar. In the 67th minute, Como 1907 were also reduced to ten players. Menayo was sent off for a foul on Bergersen, who had raced clear and was already through on goal, one-on-one with goalkeeper Durante. Once again, the red card was shown for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity. In the 69th minute, Nischler took a free-kick from the edge of the box, but her effort went just over the crossbar. In the 74th minute, Como 1907 also threatened. From a free-kick on the edge of the box, Svava delivered the ball into the area as part of a set-piece routine. Moraca made a run onto the ball but narrowly failed to find the target, with her effort just missing the far post. In the 80th minute, Como Women came close to making it 3-1. Howard received the ball inside the box just a few metres from goal and attempted a first-time volley, but the shot went high over the crossbar.

The scoreline remained unchanged, and Como Women secured victory in the first-ever women’s derby between the two Como sides.

Standings and Next Fixtures

The result means that Como Women finish their Serie A Women’s Cup campaign with one win, one draw and one defeat, collecting four points in Group C and finishing second behind Juventus.

The team’s next competitive fixture will be in the league, on the weekend of 26 September, when Tramezzani’s side travel to face Ternana Women in the opening match of the Serie A Women Athora season.
