The match between Como Women and Fiorentina was played at the “Ferruccio” Stadium in Seregno, valid for the ninth round of the Serie A Women Athora, and ended with a 3-1 victory for the Tuscan side.

First Half

The first chance of the match came in the 17th minute, when Fiorentina threatened with a shot from the edge of the box by Janogy, but Gilardi reacted well and tipped the ball out for a corner. From the resulting set piece, the Viola came close again, with Omarsdottir attempting a shot after a series of rebounds in the penalty area, but failing to hit the target.

In the 26th minute Fiorentina were dangerous once more, as Tryggvadottir tried her luck from distance, but Gilardi made a comfortable save.

Como Women, however, took the lead with their first real opportunity in the 28th minute. Following a corner kick taken by Pavan, Chidiac struck first time inside the box and found the back of the net. It was the Australian’s first goal in a Como Women shirt.

Fiorentina equalised in the 41st minute, when Tryggvadottir fired a low left-footed shot from outside the area that wrong-footed Gilardi and nestled into the corner. The teams went into the break level at 1-1.

Second Half

Fiorentina started the second half with the same intensity shown in the opening period and took the lead in the 67th minute. Catena, set up by Tryggvadottir, finished with a right-footed shot from the centre of the box to beat Gilardi.

Como Women responded immediately. In the 68th minute, Szabó, who had come on just a few minutes earlier, tested the Fiorentina goalkeeper with a low shot from the left, forcing a save and conceding a corner.

In the 76th minute, Fiorentina extended their lead to 3-1. Catena capitalised on a defensive error caused by a misunderstanding between Marcussen and Gilardi and, with a right-footed touch, directed the ball into the net to complete her personal brace.

In the closing stages Fiorentina continued to push forward and came close again in the 90th minute, but Gilardi was outstanding with a double save: first denying Bonfantini’s effort at the near post and putting the ball out for a corner, then reacting quickly on the resulting set piece to make a crucial save on the goal line from a header.

The match therefore ended with a 3-1 victory for Fiorentina at the “Ferruccio” Stadium in Seregno.

Como Women’s next fixture will be in the Coppa Italia, where Stefano Sottili’s side will face Ternana in the Round of 16 on 20 December at 12:30 in Narni.
