Ahead of Como Women–Genoa: Stefano Sottili’s pre-match statements
On the eve of the fourth matchday of the Serie A Women Athora, which will see Como Women face Genoa on Saturday, November 1 at 6 p.m. at the Ferruccio Stadium in Seregno, head coach Stefano Sottili presented the match, focusing on the technical and mental aspects that will guide the team into the game.
“It’s been almost two months since the Serie A Women’s Cup match against Genoa — both we and they have changed since then. Genoa come into this game after an important win against Ternana and only lost in the final minutes against Milan. They’re doing very well and have managed to make life difficult for every opponent they’ve faced so far. We know it’s going to be a tough and far from predictable match. But then again, in this league, no match ever is.”
“As for attitude and approach, I would like them to always be the same. I work with intelligent players and young women who are fully aware of how important it is to approach every game in the right way. We’re coming off two particular weeks, with some players away on international duty; we’ve only had the full group together for a couple of days, but the team is feeling good. Now we’ll see if we’ve managed to ensure that our attitude and performance match what this game requires.”
“Maintaining continuity in our path is part of the team’s growth process and of our weekly work. I firmly believe that when you perform well, results usually follow. In Biella, against Juventus, we delivered a great performance that led to a historic result. Against Lazio, we played well again but unfortunately didn’t get any points. Against Sassuolo, instead, we played slightly below our potential — based on the chances created and conceded, we didn’t deserve a positive result, even though the late episode could have brought us to a draw. Still, the analysis would have been the same. We need to find consistency, because that’s what builds awareness and confidence in the work we’re doing.”
