Como Women–Roma 0–1: match report and stats

Como Women started with courage and, after just eight minutes, created the first real opportunity of the match: Madsen, served by an accurate cross from Cecotti on the left, tried to surprise the Giallorossi defence with a right-footed shot from inside the box, but her attempt drifted wide. Roma responded shortly after with a long-range effort from Pilgrim, deflected for a corner. On the ensuing set piece, the visitors even found the back of the net, but Di Guglielmo’s header—redirecting a touch from Viens—was disallowed for offside.
In the 22nd minute, Como Women produced another important chance: Madsen played a vertical ball for Pavan, who attempted a low left-footed shot from inside the six-yard box but failed to hit the target. Roma returned to threaten in the 27th minute with a personal move by Viens, whose shot from the edge of the area was easily saved by a vigilant Gilardi. The Como goalkeeper would later deliver a decisive save in the 38th minute, denying Giugliano one-on-one with a stop that prevented what seemed a certain goal.
Roma nevertheless managed to break the deadlock just before the interval: in the 44th minute, a well-taken corner found the head of Di Guglielmo, who sent the ball back across goal for Viens to tap in from close range. The visitors nearly doubled their lead at the end of the half with another first-time effort from Giugliano, which this time sailed over the bar. The first half thus ended with Roma ahead.
Second Half
The second half began with Roma immediately dangerous in the 50th minute: Corelli tried her luck from a tight angle on the right, but Gilardi reacted well, blocking the shot centrally. The Giallorosse threatened again shortly after with Greggi, who fired high from the middle of the box, wasting a promising chance.
Como Women grew into the game and, in the 61st minute, earned their biggest opportunity: Marcussen drove decisively into the area and was fouled, winning a penalty that could have changed the course of the match. Nischler stepped up in the 64th minute, but her shot was brilliantly saved by Baldi. Coach Sottili immediately called for a FVS review, arguing that the Roma goalkeeper had moved early, but after checking the monitor, the referee confirmed the regularity of the save.
Moments later, Roma came close to doubling their lead: in the 67th minute, Viens found space in the box and fired a right-footed shot that beat Gilardi but struck the inside of the post. In the 75th minute, it was Roma’s bench requesting FVS assistance for a possible handball in the Como area; however, after a quick review, the referee allowed play to continue and sent off a member of the Giallorossi staff for protests.
In the final minutes, Como Women pushed forward in search of an equaliser: Lehmann tried her luck twice from distance during stoppage time, but neither attempt found the target. Roma held firm and secured a 1-0 victory, maintaining their place at the top of the table, while Como Women’s run of three consecutive wins came to an end, with the team remaining on 12 points.
The next match for Stefano Sottili’s squad will be on Sunday, December 7 at 18:00 in Parma, for the eighth round of Serie A Women Athora.
