Serie A Women’s Cup, Como Women vs Genoa: Pre-Match Quotes. "Winning to Keep Qualification Hopes Alive"

On the eve of the match against Genoa, scheduled for tomorrow at 8:30 PM at the Ferruccio Stadium in Seregno and valid for the second matchday of the Serie A Women’s Cup, head coach Stefano Sottili and midfielder Miriam Picchi shared their thoughts on the team’s current moment, the importance of the competition, and the challenges posed by the Rossoblù.
Stefano Sottili’s comments
“When you lose, of course, you’re never satisfied. We’ve analysed the defeat in Florence in the most constructive way possible, with the goal of growing and improving. The players have trained well, but the real answer will come on the pitch tomorrow evening.
I expect a different kind of match compared to the one against Fiorentina. Genoa is a team that has used several different systems in recent games, so we’re facing a certain tactical uncertainty. However, what really matters are our ideas and our playing principles. We know there will be fewer spaces than in the previous match, and we’ll need to be more precise with the final pass: in Florence, we weren’t able to create one-on-one chances for our strikers against the goalkeeper, and that made a big difference.
Given the loss in the first match, the game against Genoa is essentially a knockout match. We’ll take the field with the mindset of a team that wants to win, as we always do. We’ll already know the result of Inter–Fiorentina, but regardless of that, our goal is to win — and if possible, to do so with a solid goal difference in order to keep our qualification hopes alive.”

Miriam Picchi’s comments
“We’re preparing in the best possible way, working to build the right chemistry with the new teammates and to strengthen the connections we already had from last season. We’re training with enthusiasm and determination.
Genoa? Nowadays, every team is competitive, and every opponent must be faced with maximum focus. It will be a tough match, also from an emotional perspective: we’ll be up against a former coach and some former teammates, which will make the game even more interesting.
Personally, I’m happy about the introduction of this new competition. As a player, I love playing as much as possible. More matches and more tournaments mean more opportunities to grow, to test ourselves, to give visibility to the movement, and to contribute to the development of women’s football in Italy.”
