Towards Como Women–Fiorentina: Stefano Sottili’s pre-match statements

Como Women are preparing for the match against Fiorentina, valid for the ninth round of the Serie A Women Athora championship. On the eve of the game, scheduled for tomorrow at 12:30 pm at the Ferruccio Stadium in Seregno, head coach Stefano Sottili spoke, sharing his thoughts ahead of the match.

“Fiorentina are a very strong team, with well-defined playing principles and great offensive potential, with significant quality both in their starting eleven and in their alternatives. For this reason, I believe they can fight for a top-three finish until the very end.”

Reflecting on the Serie A Women’s Cup match, Sottili acknowledges the progress made by both teams: “Since August, Fiorentina have become even more organized and effective in their play. But we have grown as well: there has been development on a physical, technical, and awareness level that has allowed us to put in good performances and be satisfied with what we have done so far. However, we know there are still many aspects to work on—this applies to us and to all the teams in Serie A. The level of the league has increased enormously compared to last year; it is more competitive and more balanced.”

On the motivational side, he explains the approach chosen to prepare the team: “When you face such strong opponents, I think the coach’s job is to remove pressure, not add it. These matches, given the value of the opponent, almost prepare themselves. My goal is to have the players go into the game as calm as possible. I have a team of intelligent girls who know very well what kind of challenge awaits us—there’s no need to further increase the emotional load.”
