The Match Report

In the 6th minute, the first chance came for Como: from a free kick won by Bergersen about 25 meters out, Nischler—wearing the captain’s armband—took the shot, but her effort cleared the wall and went over the crossbar. In the 21st minute, Nischler had another opportunity, receiving the ball from Vaitukaityte and attempting a shot from outside the box, but it again sailed high.

In the 26th minute, Como Women had a big chance through Pavan: played in by Chidiac on the left side of the area, she tried a curling effort that did not trouble Fiskerstrand, who gathered the ball comfortably. Fiorentina created their first real chance in the 30th minute with a low strike from the edge of the box by Bredgaard, but the effort was central and easily saved by Gilardi.

Two minutes later, Como threatened again with Bernardi, who poked the ball toward the near post from inside the area, but the Fiorentina goalkeeper collected it in two attempts. In the 44th minute, a big chance fell to the home side: Bonfantini broke down the right and delivered a cross into the box for Curmark, who struck first-time toward the near post but failed to hit the target. The first half ended 0-0.

Early in the second half, in the 47th minute, Omarsdottir tried a header in the box from a cross delivered from the right, but her flick went wide to the right of Gilardi. In the 64th minute, Como had another good opportunity: Bergersen played a low ball into the area from the left, Nischler got there but was denied by the Fiorentina goalkeeper, who pushed it out for a corner.

The turning point came in the 72nd minute, when the Fiorentina bench called for a VAR review for a possible handball by Marcussen. After reviewing the incident, the referee awarded a penalty. Bredgaard stepped up and, in the 76th minute, calmly sent Gilardi the wrong way to give Fiorentina the lead.

In the 80th minute, Pavan tried her luck from a free kick on the left, but her cross went all the way across the box and out of play. In the 86th minute, Como had another chance following a misunderstanding in the Fiorentina defense, with the goalkeeper forced to concede a corner as Nischler closed in. A minute later, from the resulting corner, Pinther attempted an overhead-style effort in the box, but the ball was easily caught by the Fiorentina goalkeeper.

In stoppage time, Chidiac had a final chance from the edge of the area, but her low shot went just wide. The match ended 1-0 for Fiorentina.

Also worth noting is the yellow card shown to Paolo Tramezzani following an argument with the Fiorentina head coach, who was also booked, and the red card given to Alessia Capelletti for dissent from the bench after the decision to award the penalty.

Como Women’s next league fixture will be against Napoli at the Stadio Ferruccio in Seregno, in what will be their final home match of the season, scheduled for Saturday, May 9 at 12:30 PM.
