Serie A Women's Cup, the Match Report of Milan-Como Women

The Como Women’s first official match of the season ended 1-1. At the Centro P. Vismara – Puma House of Football, the Lariane drew with Milan after falling behind in the first half, with Borbye scoring the equaliser in the 80th minute.

Before the match, the Lariane also said goodbye to Mathilde Madsen with her number 28 shirt, following the announcement of her return to Denmark.

Como Women started with an early attempt from Nischler, who fired a low shot from the edge of the box in the 2nd minute, but failed to find the target. Two minutes later, Milan opened the scoring: Grimshaw delivered from the right for Fornes, who controlled the ball inside the six-yard box, turned and beat Gilardi to make it 1-0 to the Rossonere. Como Women reacted and came close to an equaliser in the 11th minute following a corner, with Nielsen getting a touch with her head and sending the ball just wide. In the 17th minute, Milan threatened again through Grimshaw, who tried her luck from distance, but her shot went over the crossbar. The home side came forward again in the 31st minute with Arrigoni, who cut inside from the right side of the box and fired with her left foot, but Gilardi was able to save and hold the shot. The first half ended with Milan leading 1-0.

At the start of the second half, Como Women created an opportunity through Nielsen, who produced a good individual run before setting up Nischler, whose effort from the edge of the box was comfortably saved by the Milan goalkeeper. In the 57th minute, the Lariane came close to an equaliser. Zamboni, who had just come on, made a good run down the right and sent a low ball into the box for Nielsen, who got to the finish, but Koivisto intervened to deflect the shot behind for a corner. In the 79th minute, Milan looked for a second goal through Stokic, who managed to get ahead of Borbye in the centre of the box, but her effort went high over the crossbar. One minute later, Como Women found the equaliser. In the 80th minute, following a corner, Borbye collected the ball outside the box and struck a first-time right-footed volley, beating the Milan goalkeeper to make it 1-1. It was the Danish player’s first goal in a Como Women shirt. In the 84th minute, the Lariane had an opportunity to complete the comeback. Nischler was played through and found herself one-on-one with the Milan goalkeeper, but her effort went over the crossbar. In the 89th minute, Milan threatened again through Arrigoni, who received the ball inside the box and fired first time, but sent her effort well over the crossbar. In stoppage time, Zamboni came close to finding the winning goal for Como Women. She made a run down the right and attempted a shot, but the ball went just wide of the post. The match ended 1-1.

The next fixture in the Serie A Women’s Cup for Head Coach Tramezzani’s side will be on Saturday 29 August at 18:00 against Juventus at the Stadio La Marmora in Biella.
