Serie A Women's Cup, Como Women-Genoa: post-match statements

Como Women and Genoa draw 1-1 at the Ferruccio Stadium in Seregno, on Matchday 2 of the Serie A Women’s Cup.

The match between Como Women and Genoa, valid for the second matchday of the Serie A Women’s Cup, ended in a 1-1 draw at the Ferruccio Stadium in Seregno. Goals from Madsen—her first for Como—and Bargi decided the final scoreline.

With this result, both Como and Genoa move to one point in Group B, trailing Inter and Fiorentina, who sit on six and three points respectively.

After the match, Danish midfielder Mathilde Madsen, scorer of the opening goal, and head coach Stefano Sottili shared their thoughts.

Mathilde Madsen’s words:

"On a personal level, I’m obviously very happy about the goal, especially because I scored it in front of our home fans. But there’s a lot of disappointment because we didn’t win the match.

What was missing? We created so many scoring chances but weren’t clinical enough. We lacked the final pass or the composure in front of goal. There’s definitely a sense of frustration."

Head coach Stefano Sottili’s comments:

"We could and should have capitalized better on the many chances we created. We had a very strong first half, spending most of the time in their half, winning back a lot of balls, and keeping control of the game.

What hurt us most was going into halftime with only a 1-0 lead. In the second half, we dropped both physically and in the quality of our possession, which gave Genoa the belief they could come back.

When you don’t close out games, you risk paying the price — and the warning signs were there, like the crossbar they hit before the equalizer.

We needed to be smarter in managing the lead and bringing home the win."
